I’m sitting here thinking of My Man today. Father’s Day is here. I want him to know how amazing he is. I don’t talk a lot about my husband on this blog nor do I say much about fathers in general. This is a mommy blog after all. But today I am feeling very appreciative of good men in the world.
When I met My Man over 15 years ago he made me laugh right away. In those first few weeks of knowing him, he held doors open for me, brought me over homemade shortbread, took me out for rootbeer floats, and most of all . . . he listened to what I had to say. I knew I had found my best friend.
To find a guy who listened to my every word meant the world to me. I’m a friendly but kinda a shy person in real life. In a crowd of people you’ll rarely find me to be the “talker” of the group. Yet even though I am quieter in public, I still have things I want to say, and I need a listener. I am so very thankful to My Man for being the listener in my life.
My Man works hard. Even as I write he is off at the hospital trying to help a baby who was born too early at 32 weeks. He was nervous when he first got the call. But he was ready. Just before he left I saw him kneel down in silent prayer. I was reminded of one of the main reasons I fell in love with him.
He isn’t perfect. He leaves his dirty socks on the floor and he can make a mess of my kitchen faster than all 3 of my kidlets combined. But sometimes it’s his imperfections that I love. And I know he loves me despite all my many flaws.
Because of My Man, and my own Dad, and my Father-in-Law, and my Brothers, I know there are great guys in this world who try to make a difference. Are they perfect? No. But they aren’t supposed to be. They work hard. They are good fathers. They are good husbands. And I am thankful to all of them for making my life better and showing me what a good man is.
Happy Father’s Day to all the good guys in the world.
