Remember my ugly-ish sofa? Remember the $2 Pillows I made to liven it up? Well, I still have that sofa and those pillows, but in our new house we put it down in the basement where it should’ve been a long time ago.
Now I have another sofa upstairs. My friend who was moving gave me this sofa for $25. It’s from IKEA and she dyed them a beautiful blue.
Now, I’m still trying to save money and payback med school loans. And we are still renting, so I don’t want to invest a lot into furniture that won’t fit my someday permanent home. Every little bit counts. I wanted pillows for my “new” sofa, but didn’t want to dish out $80 for them. So I decided to listen to my own blog post and make more $2 pillows.
I went to Jo-Ann fabrics. They have fabric samples that often go on sale for $1-2. I got these samples for $1 a piece (so each pillow takes 2 pieces). They are the perfect size for a sofa pillow.
The hardest thing about these samples is finding pieces that coordinate together. You also have to find a front piece and a back piece. But they are great because they already have a hemmed edge.
This is my old pillows. I had bought these at JC Penney for $20 each. But they no longer fit the style of my room. Plus, they were flat.
I tore them open and re-used the stuffing. It worked great.
As far as making the pillows, it only takes basic sewing skills (because I promise, that is all I am capable of!!) You can see my other tutorial {HERE}. You bascially, pin the wrong sides together and sew all around the edge. Leave and opening for the stuffing. Then sew up that opening. DONE!
Here’s what you get:

Good luck!
