Simple Sugar Cookies

SIMPLE Sugar Cookies.  I know you already have a recipe for sugar cookies.  But is it SIMPLE?  And I know you are trying to eat healthy (so am I), but you still may need this sugar cookie recipe someday.

This is my SIMPLE recipe that I have had since my newlywed days.  I cannot remember where I got it.  But I love this because it's as easy as any cookie recipe and they taste buttery and soft.  These sugar cookies have nothing weird in them.  No buttermilk, or sour cream, or whatever.  There's no chilling involved.  They just have regular cookie ingredients--so simple.  AND THEY TASTE PERFECT.  These are My Man's favorite food.  I'm not kidding . . .

SIMPLE SUGAR COOKIES

3/4 cup softened butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

THAT'S ALL!

Cream butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla

Add the rest of the ingredients (dry) and mix thoroughly.

Mix until you have a nice thick dough like this.  Add more flour as needed to achieve this.

The kidlets love the cookie-cutter part.

Bake at 375 for 6-8 minutes.  Nice and thick as they bake.

Nice and SOFT when they are done.  These cookies are NOT dry.  They are buttery and soft.

These go perfectly with my Easy Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting.  It's so quick and good (click picture for recipe)!!

Go ahead, make a whole bunch.  Let me know what you think...

  1. Thanks so much for sharing this! I've been looking for a SIMPLE sugar cookie recipe forever & usually just don't make them due to complexity or I use the pre-made dough at the grocery store (which just isn't the same)!

    1. I'm the same way! If I have to do too many extra steps than it's no longer fun for me. We started rolling these out as soon as I finished the dough. Great for impatient kids.

    1. I'm now coming by from the Commentathon! I love your pictures of these sugar cookies. I have two sugar cookie recipes I like--one for decorating, one for rolling in sugar and making round cookies. But your pictures look much better than mine!

  4. Hi there Lisa, my name is Paulina and I got here through the Comentathon. I will have to try this recipe! I live the idea of baking cookies with my boy (when he's older) and do the cookie cutter thing and decorating them, I think he'll enjoy it but I hate all the sugar cookies I've ever tried, too dry and weird tasting! This sounds simple enough and tasty. I'll give it a try and let you know what happens. Thanks for sharing!

  13. Thank you! I love a good sugar cookie! Are they soft or crunchy? I love the soft ones, but the recipe I have is wonderfully soft without as much buttery flavor as I would like. Thanks for the post!

  20. Thank you so much for this recipe! I love sugar cookies! They remind me of baking cookies with my grandmother when I was growing up although we always made Pillsbury cookies and never really baked any from scratch. I am sure these taste even better because they are homemade.

  25. Perfect! We usually only eat sugar cookies here. What kind of icing did you use in that last picture with the sprinkles? They looks so good!

  33. Dude. I'm forcing myself NOT to bookmark this. Because I just know that if I have easy access to cookie dough, it WILL all be consumed in a very short period of time! (The cookies DO look delicious though! Maybe I'll bookmark it and try to forget I have it...? lol)
